WELL CHILD POLICY

COVID-19 GUIDELINES

New City Kids encourages our families to worship and grow together by empowering parents to be their child’s primary discipleship leaders, and by teaching biblical truth in the context of building meaningful relationships.

Our kids have fun; learning to know God and make Him known through exciting and engaging teaching of God’s grace-filled plan for mankind found in Scripture, memorization of God’s Word, and the joyful discovery of God’s redemptive purpose in their lives.

SAFETY

New City Church is a safe environment for children whether they attend New City Kids with their friends or stay with their parents in the Worship Gathering.  The staff and volunteers of New City Kids, together with our Security Team, work diligently to ensure that every child is kept safe as they play, learn, and worship.

  • Every volunteer who works with kids and students at New City Church has passed an extensive background check.
  • Children are checked-in and out of their classrooms.
  • Teachers have a roster each week to ensure that no child goes missing.
  • Our Security Team patrols the hallways of the building during the Worship Gathering.
  • A supervisor is always on hand to respond to any needs that arise. A walkie-talkie is in each classroom.

Well Child Policy

For the protection of our children, families, volunteers, and childcare providers, please adhere to these guidelines when determining if you should bring your child to church.

  • A new loss of taste and/or smell
  • Body aches / headaches
  • Cough

If your child begins to exhibit any of these symptoms during our care, we will notify you immediately and request that you take your child home.

Thank you for helping us maintain a healthy environment for everyone.

COVID-19 Guidelines

In order to protect our children, families, volunteers, and childcare providers from potential exposure, we have adopted Covid-19 Guidelines. Parents play a big part in our success! Please discuss these policies with your children and family. We want our kids to learn how to safely navigate the togetherness and community we desire for them.

Our volunteers will be trained and led in these policies on a continuing basis.

Registration

Registration is required for all kids in order to participate in New City Kids on Sunday.
  • Registration for NCK is connected to family registration for the worship gathering.
  • New City Kids classrooms are currently open for the 9am worship gathering only.

Health Check at Home

Before coming to church be sure to do a thorough health check at home.

  • Do not attend church as a family if anyone in your household has been vomiting or has other flu symptoms in the 24 hours prior to church. (Healthy family members should also stay home.)
  • Children must be fever-free for a full 24 hours prior to coming to church. (Fever free means their temperature is below 100.4 degrees AND they have not taken any fever reducing medication for 24 hours.)

Health Assessment on Arrival at Church

Children and volunteers exhibiting any of the following symptoms will not be accepted into New City Kids and will need to leave the building as soon as possible.

  • Fever over 100.4° (currently or within the last 24 hours)
  • Vomiting of diarrhea (currently or within the last 24 hours)
  • Runny nose that is not clear
  • A new loss of taste and/or smell
  • Persistent dry cough / shortness of breath

  • Eye infections

Policies for Entry into New City Kids

  • All volunteers and children ages 5 and older are required to wear face coverings in New City Kids classrooms.
  • Parents are required to wear face coverings while dropping off and picking up their children.
  • All staff, volunteers, and families should enter New City Kids on Sunday mornings via the entryway from the lobby. No-one should enter through an exterior door.
  • New City Kids is a secure area. Only the following people are permitted to enter:
    • The director, volunteers, and childcare providers
    • Children checked-into a classroom
    • Parents accompanying children to childcare or a classroom
  • The New City Kids restrooms (off the hallway) are for kids and volunteers only.
  • All contact surfaces in the New City Kids restrooms will be sanitized by the Team Lead at least twice while kids are in the classrooms.
  • Everyone entering the New City Kids area (volunteers, children going to class, accompanying siblings, and parents) will have their temperature taken with a contactless thermometer.

Policies for Entering Classrooms

  • To promote social distancing, registration for each classroom will close once it has reached a specific determined capacity.
  • Space will be intentionally reserved for first-time visitors.
  • Immediately upon entry to class, children and volunteers will be required to wash or sanitize their hands.

Policies for Sanitization of Classrooms and Common Areas

  • Children and volunteers are required to wash hands after using the restroom and before snacktime. Volunteers will give time to ensure proper hand washing hygiene.
  • The classrooms are disinfected according to CDC guidelines once a week by a professional work crew.
  • After the 9am class, common surfaces will be wiped down and sanitized by volunteers, including toys that have been touched, handles on doors, table tops, cabinet handles, sink handles, etc.
  • Children will have a designated bag of crayons and pencils labeled with their name to use during class in order to limit the sharing of materials.

Plans if State Guidelines Shift

Plan A | Current State Guidelines

Meet in-person each week and open classrooms in phases following these Covid-19 Guidelines.

Plan B | State Restricts In-Person Gathering

All classrooms will be closed and Sunday School will be offered via Zoom for school age classrooms.

Policy for Covid-19 Exposure

  • If a child or volunteer has been in a New City Kids classroom and they (or someone in their household) tests positive for COVID-19 we request that they self-quarantine at home for 14 days and immediately notify the Children’s Director. Notifying the Children’s Director will assist us in determining who else may have been exposed and providing them with notification.
  • If a child or volunteer is waiting for COVID-19 test results for someone in their household who may have been exposed, we request that they remain at home until negative results are received.
  • In the event that a child or volunteer who has been in a New City Kids classroom tests positive for Covid-19 that classroom will be shut down for 1 week. This will allow time for other children or volunteers who were exposed to show symptoms.
  • Any child or volunteer who tests positive for Covid-19 may not return to New City Kids for 14 days.
  • The Children's Director will communicate altered Sunday morning classroom schedules.
  • New City Kids will work with any family who is in quarantine to ensure they have the resources needed for at-home Sunday School for the duration.

Thank you for being respectful and kind with others in our community. We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and grace as we navigate the unknowns of opening up children’s ministry during a pandemic.

PARENT RESOURCES

At New City Kids we strive to come alongside parents as they are a child's primary discipleship leader. Over the years we have listed, created, and gathered many resources we believe will be helpful. This is an ongoing collection, so please let us know if you are aware of anything that should be added.

COVENANT PARTNERSHIP

It is important to us that our children know that this is not just their parents' church.  As the Apostle Peter made clear in his first sermon (Acts 2) the Promise is for us and for our children. The Book of Church Order reminds us (6-1) that the children of believers are, through the covenant and by right of birth, non-communing members of the Church. They are entitled to the sacraments of baptism, to the benefits of pastoral oversight and instruction - all with a view toward their coming to embrace Christ personally - making their parents' faith their own.

About once a year we offer a Kids & Students Covenant Partnership Class in which we focus on the essentials of our faith and work alongside our children to help them develop the ability to articulate their understanding of the gospel. Once they can give a credible profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to examine themselves beforehand, the elders will make communion available to them.
